Beneficios del magnesio

El magnesio está en todos lados. Desde pastillas, cápsulas, tabletas, hasta líquido o en polvo.

 

Pero, ¿Cuánto magnesio debo consumir? ¿Puedo obtenerlo de mi alimentación? ¿Y cuáles son sus verdaderos beneficios? 



¿Qué es el magnesio?

El magnesio es un mineral presente en los alimentos, pero también se vende como suplemento. 

 

Los seres humanos necesitamos forzosamente el magnesio para vivir. Porque, aunque sea solo un simple mineral, participa en muchas funciones del cuerpo; como musculares, digestivas, cardiovasculares y cerebrales. 

 

Desde hace algunos años, muchas marcas de suplementos han estado promocionando el magnesio por sus múltiples beneficios. Aunque es muy importante para el buen funcionamiento del cuerpo, la realidad es que aún falta mucha investigación para comprobar los beneficios que mencionan en muchas etiquetas. 

 

Como el magnesio ayuda a muchos procesos de belleza en la piel, en el pelo y en el cuerpo en general; se ha promocionado y vendido como un producto de belleza. 

 

Y aunque es una muy buena recomendación que consumas magnesio en tu dieta, es importante aprender cuales son sus beneficios reales y cual es la mejor manera de consumirlo. 



¿Cuáles son sus beneficios?

 

  • Mantiene el sistema inmune fuerte.

 

  • Regula las funciones nerviosas (por eso se recomienda mucho para calmar o relajar). Ya que los músculos necesitan magnesio para contraerse. 

 

  • Ayuda a desintoxicar y limpiar la piel (es bueno para calmar reacciones alérgicas). 

 

  • Aunque aún no está científicamente comprobado, se reconoce por ayudar a dormir mejor, en parte por la relajación de músculos; sin embargo se sigue investigando.



¿Necesitamos comprarlo?

Lo que sucede con el magnesio es algo muy peculiar.

Es muy difícil tener una deficiencia de magnesio si comes bien y variado. Y aun así, en estadísticas de Estados Unidos (ya que no encontramos las de México); es un mineral que le hace falta a la mitad de la población.

 

Se cree que los motivos de la falta de magnesio en Estados Unidos es por el estilo de vida acelerado. Por otro lado, el alcohol y algunos medicamentos  interfieren con su absorción. 

 

Entonces, si verdaderamente no puedes tener acceso a los alimentos altos en magnesio de manera natural, porque trabajas, viajas mucho o tienes días exageradamente ocupados, se recomienda  comenzar consumiendo algún suplemento (con la aprobación de tu médico). 

 

Yo personalmente prefiero obtener el magnesio de los alimentos y no de suplementos. 



Algunos ejemplos de  alimentos altos en magnesio son:

 

  • Nueces y semillas (almendras, semillas de calabaza, cacahuates y nuez de la india)
  • Dark chocolate en todas sus variaciones
  • Semillas de cacao (Puedes encontrar el nuestro aquí)
  • Aguacate
  • Alimentos de origen animal de buena calidad (carne, puerco, salmón).
  • Frijol
  • Plátano 
  • Leche y yogurt
  • Hojas verdes
  • Legumbres

¿Cómo saber si me hace falta magnesio?

Si sientes muchos calambres al entrenar o te despiertas con calambres en las piernas a la mitad de las noches, puede ser un indicador de que te haga falta magnesio. 

 

Sin embargo, si quieres estar seguro de las deficiencias puedes realizarte pruebas de sangre.



¿Cuánto Magnesio se debe tomar al día?



La Universidad de Harvard recomienda la toma de 420 miligramos de Magnesio por día.




Mi receta favorita alta en Magnesio

 

Bowl de yogurt de desayuno: me encanta esta receta porque está llena de nutrientes y energía para empezar la mañana.

Media taza de yogurt de leche entera o de coco (si eres vegano)
5-7 semillas de cacao que puedes trocear arriba (puedes comprarlo aquí)
3 cucharadas de granola o amaranto.

¼ de taza de moras (frambuesas, zarzamoras o fresas)
Miel al gusto 

 

Solo tienes que colocar todo en un bowl y decorar con el resto de los ingredientes. Con esta receta puedes asegurar tu consumo de magnesio desde muy temprano en la mañana.




Otra receta alta en magnesio que me gusta mucho es el bowl de salmón en cama de espinacas (o cualquier otra hoja verde), jitomate crudo, cebolla morada, una cucharada de aceite de oliva extra virgen y semillas de calabaza.
